Course Description

The unique design of Gramacho Golf Course was a team effort by well-known course architect Ronald Fream and former champion Nick Price. Thanks to their combined input Gramacho utilises the stunning, undulating landscape, historic drystone walling and existing almond and olive trees. The natural layout is combined with strategically placed bunkers and beautifully sculpted lakes to create a picturesque 18-hole challenge.

Gramacho is recognised as a championship course, having hosted the Portuguese Ladies' Open on a number of occasions. It has been designed to test the player's accuracy and requires careful thought when choosing each club. That being said, this stunning course is also enjoyable for those with a higher handicap who may be less experienced. There is a clubhouse located right at the heart of the resort with a number of services including a restaurant and bar for a post-game pick-me-up, equipment rental and changing facilities.

Penina Golf

Course Description

The Penina Golf Resort has three courses to choose from, one of which was the first 18-hole course to be constructed in the Algarve. The Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course is renowned as being one of the most challenging courses in the world and has hosted a total of 10 Portuguese Opens. It is dotted with an array of trees and shrubs and the relatively flat fairways are complimented by strategically placed hazards, water features and bunkers. This course can catch even the most careful player out!

If you're interested in something a little more gentle, the other two courses on site are both 9-hole and, like the Sir Henry Cotton course, they are surrounded by fine landscapes and lovely scenery. The three courses are set within a beautiful 360-acre estate and there are a number of practice facilities including a driving range, putting green and practice bunker, so there really is something here for golfers of all abilities.

Vale de Milho

Course Description

Located in the town of Carvoeiro, the pretty Vale de Milho golf course overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and is very family friendly. At just 926 meters in length, the Vale de Milho is smaller than a full-sized course, making it a great one for those who are just starting out, or fancy a bit of light practice improving their short game. With large contoured greens, bunkers and a number of water hazards there is enough of a challenge here to keep you on your toes, but the relaxed atmosphere of this picturesque course tends to tempt players of less experience.

Vale da Pinta - Pestana

Course Description

Loved for its beauty, the Vale da Pinta course is set within a typical Algarve landscape. Its undulating greens feature old almond and olive trees, one of which is said to be 1200 years old. The famous architect Ronald Fream designed the course in a way that incorporates the surrounding nature as much as possible. The Vale da Pinta is thought by many to be one of the best designed courses in the Algarve and even further afield. It was the 8-times consecutive host of the European Seniors Tour Qualifying final and poses quite a challenge with its sand bunkers and ornamental lakes. It has earned itself a reputation for being exceptionally well maintained and is a very enjoyable course to play on with lovely fairways and a few particularly challenging holes.

The Clubhouse is modern and welcoming with a relaxing feel to it. Equipment rental and changing facilities are available and both the bar and the restaurant benefit from lovely views out over the fairways.

Silves – Pestana

Course Description

This is a course designed with the more serious player in mind. Those who usually play with a higher handicap will find it a definite challenge. Silves is located in a serene position at the base of the Monchique mountains, but don't let that lull you into a false sense of calm; the first hole starts you off with water hazards on both flanks and you'll have to maintain your concentration throughout.

Silves is a pretty course and most of the holes will offer fantastic mountain views, with the greens flowing seamlessly into the countryside beyond. But it has been designed to test your precision, and the great variety of holes does just that; they range from the short and straight to the long and curvy, making it a very interesting course to play on.

Boavista

Course Description

The attractive Boavista course enjoys far reaching views of the Bay of Lagos to one side and the angelic foothills of the Monchique mountains to another. This interesting course has a variety of holes to offer, ranging from welcoming to more challenging. Boavista can be reminiscent of landscaped gardens, with its water features, streams and arched bridges all complimented by panoramic views.

This is a welcoming course ideal for those who want to brush up on their skills and fit in some practice while holidaying. There is an expert on hand to give tuition as well as an exclusive short-game practice area which includes a putting green, a chipping green and a driving range. Guests are welcome to use the onsite facilities and club house.

Palmares

Course Description

The Palmares golf course in Lagos is a relatively new addition to the Algarve golfing scene, with its full 27 holes first opened in 2011. The course has a wonderful seaside setting, overlooking the Meia Praia beach and Atlantic ocean beyond. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, the genius of this course is all in the layout: it is comprised of three returning 9-hole loops that can be played in any sequence. This means that as well as providing an adequate challenge for a player of any ability, this course also offers a great opportunity for variety where each golfing experience is different depending on your sequence of play.

The course has outstanding natural beauty, so you may find yourself getting distracted by the view! The scenery varies from the coastal stretch to the south, to the wooded parkland of the first nine holes. Whatever your level of skill, you will find yourself thoroughly enjoying a round at Palmares.

Morgado do Reguengo

Course Description

The Morgado do Reguengo is a reasonably challenging course with a flat landscape and wide fairways. Situated within a valley, this course is surrounded by peaceful parkland studded with traditional trees and offers a great opportunity to practice your game. A number of well-placed bunkers means this course poses a challenge to golfers of all abilities and is a good one for those interested in perfecting their technique.

A number of practice facilities at the Morgado resort include a driving range, putting green and practice bunker, as well as expert tuition for groups or individuals. There is also use of a clubhouse which features a bar, restaurant, equipment rental and a shop.
